There are few greater examples of courage and determination to draw from our Canadian heritage than Terry Fox. His monumentally selfless effort to initiate the Marathon of Hope continue to be celebrated in our schools and in the efforts of our staff, students and community partners. At San Lorenzo Ruiz, we participated on September 29 by running, jogging and walking as a community.
The students were engaged in learning about the story of Terry Fox and they were inspired by the message he delivered. This year, the motto, Try Like Terry, was manifested through student and staff efforts to show they were participating in honour of a loved one. The Marathon of Hope was enlivened through artwork, displays, research, and other activities. As September is the month dedicated to the virtue of Courage, The Terry Fox Run is an excellent event which highlights and celebrates the seeds which Terry Fox planted, and the continued efforts to realize the dream born when Terry Fox took his first step in the Marathon of Hope.
