San Lorenzo Ruiz is a great Christian model of courage in the face of adversity. His deep faith and his commitment to God was evident right through to the end of his life. He demonstrated throughout his life that he was a devout Christian and a very learned, respected member of his community in the Binondo District of Manilla in the Philippines. His sacrifice as a Martyr made him the first person beatified outside of the Vatican and the first Filipino ever venerated as a saint.
